Warm throws for the winter: what to choose?

Although autumn and winter can be really beautiful seasons of the year, on a daily basis they are associated primarily with long evenings, cold, wind, and more or less intense rainfall. Brrrr! In such weather, you can only do one thing – plunge into a warm, soft throw with a cup of hot cocoa and an interesting book or series.

Wool-cashmere plaids and throws

Natural wool and cashmere throws are undoubtedly a royal choice among all throws available for sale. These are very noble materials that provide warmth and are extremely pleasant to the touch. As for woolen throws – they are most often made of sheep wool.

Wool has only advantages – it perfectly absorbs and drains moisture, ensures proper air circulation, is resistant to dirt, hot temperatures, or the influence of moisture, and looks great even after many years of use. In addition, wool has health properties, including reducing joint and spine pains and rheumatic pains in general. Cashmere is highly valued wool from cashmere goats. The addition of cashmere in throws makes them warmer and, above all, more pleasant to the touch.

A throw made of wool and cashmere is perfect for winter, as it provides warmth that lasts for a long time. Nevertheless, it will also be perfect in summer, because it does not overheat – it ensures the optimal temperature. Of course, due to the fact that it is a natural material, it may cause allergies. Bad storage can cause moths to settle in it.

How to Choose a Good Wool Throw?

Contrary to appearances, throws with admixtures of other materials are more durable and do not lose their quality. It is also worth paying attention to whether the throw has a trim in the form of hems or fringes. Such a throw, in addition to looking better, will not fray at the ends.

In order for a wool throw to retain its benefits, we need to care for it properly. Woolen and wool-cashmere rugs and throws are intended for dry cleaning. They should not be machine-washed. It’s a good idea to dry them flat. It is also worth paying attention to the throws made of recycled sheep wool. This is of great importance for the environment and for those who prefer organic products. Such throws can be found, among others, in the offer of the UK brand Rise and Fall, whose products are available at their online store.

Warm throws and cotton rugs

Cotton throws are one of the most popular ones due to their value for money. They are undemanding and provide everything we expect during cool autumn evenings. The thicker the cotton throw, the more warmth it will provide. Therefore, a cotton throw with a thicker weave will be better for winter.

Another advantage of cotton is that it rarely causes allergies, unlike wool. Warm cotton throws are quite heavy, however, so there are also acrylic-blend cotton throws on the market that is lightweight.

Cotton throws with acrylic and a little bit of polyester are also warmer than 100% cotton throws and fluffier than 100% cotton throws.
